CONCEPT
Gate 360 is an aparthotel designed for the surfing community in Bali.
The concept behind this aparthotel is to merge the relaxed, free-spirited essence of surf culture with modern, stylish design, elevating the standard of surf accommodations to a whole new level. There’s no room for typical hostels here—just a confident, premium approach to comfort and aesthetics.
Our task was to design an aparthotel on a small plot of land while maximizing its potential. We arranged the units to ensure that most of them offer great views. To view the interior design of the apartments, follow the link.
We drew inspiration from Eastern motifs, adapting them to a contemporary context. Right at the entrance, near the reception area, guests are greeted by a statue of the Maneki-neko cat, but instead of the usual welcoming gesture, it makes the surfer’s "shaka" (or "hang loose") sign, symbolizing friendliness and a connection to the ocean.
The central accent
The central accent of the courtyard is a huge hanging ball with a frame inside, covered with an orange coating with a slight gradient. It represents the sunset over the ocean, creating an atmosphere of peace and connection with nature.
We used a glass fence, but not an ordinary one, but a mirror fence made of a special material that can be immersed in water without the risk of corrosion. This solution made it possible to avoid the bulkiness of concrete and visually increase the space.
Rooftop
The rooftop features a sports zone, yoga area, and a jacuzzi. Above the roof, fabric panels styled as ocean waves sway in the wind, creating the effect of floating, living waves.
We have equipped a special surfboard ramp on the roof in use. Here you can practice your technique and train at any time.
There is also a projector area on the laptop where surfers gather to watch videos of their rides — usually they are filmed from a quadcopter, and then the equipment and parts are disassembled together.
The view from the apartments offers a stunning overlook of the inner courtyard, dominated by the giant suspended sphere—a symbol of the sunset over the ocean.
Overall, the space is filled with photogenic angles that beg to be captured.
